For decades, major manufacturers of sheet-bending machines and folding presses around the globe have been using gearmotors of the renowned Compacta series or custom adaptations based on its principle. Common to all of the drives is a high power density, which is achieved by a compact design with an integrated slide potentiometer, which enables easy activation. The lifting spindle drives of the mini-series or the wide variety of types and sizes from the line of planetary gears by Framo Morat are used in metal processing and machine building.

All standard transmission series are continuously being further developed and improved and serve as an ideal foundation for numerous applications. With appropriate quantities, it is frequently advantageous to design a drive individually in accordance with the required specifications according to the modular principle, or to develop it entirely according to customer specifications. Linear systems for precision portal systems

Modern laser cutting gantries assure high positioning and repeat accuracy with less than 1 μm tolerance while maintaining a highly dynamic process speed of up to 300 m/min. In the gantry drive units, rack and pinion drive systems – consisting of planetary gear, pinion and toothed rack – ensure the dynamic and positionally accurate motion sequence. The technically and economically sophisticated linear systems are used for positioning both the X-axes and the Y-axes. The key element of the drive system is a high-precision planetary gear of the GSD series from Framo Morat. The gear unit, designed for high radial and axial forces, impresses with its compact design. The robotic output flange ensures maximum torsional stiffness.

Press brakes

Press brakes are used for bending sheet metal. For this purpose, a bending punch presses the sheet metal into a die which determines the bending angle. Modern press brakes, which are often CNC-controlled, can be used to fold and bend steel sheets several centimetres thick. The multi-axis backgauge used in the planetary gear of the GSA070 series ensures the exact positioning of the plates. This can be controlled to move repeatedly between bends to produce complex parts.

Adjusting the crowning unit in sheet metal bending machines

DurmlaHigh levels of bending forces in the bending process lead to an elastic deformation of the bending machine’s frame. This results in different bending angles, which leads to faulty workpieces. The crowning unit developed by Framo Morat, which reliably supplies the required adjusting forces, provides the compensation for different bending angles. This development focused on this unit’s ability to be easily integrated into existing control systems. Smooth integration into CNC control systems is ensured using the integrated feedback system.
